The PEAK Missoula Triathlon is a race for all levels. Beginners will appreciate the shorter swim of 500 yards, larger swim lanes and fewer participants in each lane. The bike course of 12.4 miles is an out and back on Blue Mountain Road. The run is 3.1 miles throughout nearby neighborhoods along rolling hills.
Registration
Registration opens February 7th at 8 AM and is open to 250 participants. There will be no race-day registration. PEAK Health and Wellness Center members will receive early registration on February 6th from 8 AM-Midnight (Memberships will be verified). Once the 250 participant limit has been met, you will be placed on the waiting list. No money will be taken if you are on the wait list. Once a spot becomes available, you will be emailed the link to complete registration. Please register promptly to avoid losing your race spot. See cancellation policy below for details. The entry fee for individuals is $50. The entry fee for teams (2 or 3 participants) is $80. A charge from Timedsports will appear on your credit card statement. Each participant must provide complete payment and registration information including a signed liability waiver. To register, please go to the ‘Registration’ page.
Teams
Teams consist of two or three participants. Each team member will complete their portion of the triathlon and will touch hands in the transition area with the next teammate. Each participant must provide all registration details (Name, address, phone, emergency contact, tshirt size, etc.) and will receive a participant t-shirt.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations with a full refund minus the online processing fee of $15 are allowed until April 6th. Any
cancellations after April 6th will benefit Fit to Fight. Registrants may not transfer their entry fee to another registrant. Please email info@peakmissoula.com to cancel your registration. You will receive confirmation via email of your cancellation and refund if applicable. A check will be mailed to the mailing address given at registration. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your refund to be processed.
Heats
Heats will begin at 8:00 AM. They will be assigned based on estimated swim times and will be every 15 or 20 minutes. Heat assignments will be posted and e-mailed by race week. There will be a special heat for 1st-time triathletes. If this is your first triathlon and you’d like to race with other first-timers, this is the heat for you. You will have up to 20 minutes to complete the swim.
Estimated Swim Times
Please approximate your 500 yard swim time when you register. If needed, changes in times will only be accepted before April 30th. Please email info@peaktri.com to update your swim time.
Age Groups
Age groups are divided into male and female ages 15-19, 20-24, 25-29..., 70+ and all-male, all-female and co-ed teams. Athletes under the age of 18 must have a parental consent form signed before registration is accepted. No one under the age of 15 will be allowed to participate. Ages are determined based on the participant’s age on 12/31/2012.
Race Bag Pickup
Race bags can be picked up on Friday, May 18th between 8 AM and 8 PM or Saturday, May 19th between 6 and 8 AM at the PEAK Health and Wellness Center, 5000 Blue Mountain Road. You may pick up another participant’s packet. The PEAK is not responsible for lost bags.
Race Day Information
A pre-race meeting will be Friday, May 18th at 6 PM at the PEAK Health and Wellness Center. Race course details and any race day questions will be addressed at that time. Child care will be available at the Peak's "Jungle" from 7:30 AM - 3 PM for $5.00 per hour. Heat start times are based on the race clock. Athletes are allowed to rack their bike an hour before their start time – no earlier. Please pick up belongings from transition area soon after you finish. All participants must be “body marked” on one arm and one leg prior to race start. Be ready to enter the pool 5-10 minutes before your heat time. Be sure to check in with the swim volunteer at your lane. Locker rooms are available for changing. All roads are open to traffic. Be very cautious for cars and other hazards.
Rules and Regulations
-Wetsuits are not allowed.
-Only race participants are allowed in the transition area.
-All participants are responsible for knowing the course and any hazards.
-There is no drafting allowed on the bike course. At least two bike lengths must be kept between riders.
-Bicyclists are to ride in a single line unless a pass is being made in a timely manner and with adequate space. Please check for traffic before entering into the road.
-Bicyclists are not allowed to cross the yellow center line.
-Helmets must meet the Consumer Product Safety Commission Standards. They must be strapped under the chin before mounting the bike and remain on until after dismounting the bike.
-Teams are required to hand-touch in the transition area.
-Race numbers must be visible along the bike course and worn in the front at the finish line.
-No support crews or pacers are allowed on any part of the racecourse.
-Athletes are responsible for their own mechanical problems.
-Please do not throw any trash along the course.
-No MP3 players or iPods allowed while racing.
Transition Area
Only athletes are allowed in the transition area. Please rack your bike an hour before your heat starts--no earlier. Be aware of other racers and give them the right-of-way in and out of the transition area. While racing, be sure to mount and dismount your bike outside the transition area with helmet secured. Slow down when entering the transition area and watch for other racers. You are responsible for racking your own bike. Once finished, please retrieve your belongings in a timely manner to make room for other racers.
Finish
Food and drinks will be provided to participants only. Medical support is available at the finish area. Finish times will be available soon after the race finishes. Please gather all belongings out of transition soon after you finish. The PEAK Health and Wellness Center is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Raffle
There will be two raffles – one at 12:00 for the earlier heats and one shortly after race completion for the later heats. An email with details will be sent during race week.
Awards
The top three male and female finishers as well as the top all-male, all-female and co-ed teams receive awards. Age group winners also receive awards. (Top three overall winners will not be included in the age group.) If an athlete is not present to receive their award, it can be picked up at the PEAK Health and Wellness Center by Wednesday, May 23rd. Awards will not be mailed.
